About the role

Responsibilities

  • Perform medical assistant procedures for patients in oncology clinical trials, including venipuncture and port access (accessing, flushing, and de-accessing)
  • Conduct peripheral and port lab draws and perform blood processing
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist physicians with procedures as needed
  • Obtain vital signs and EKGs from pharmacokinetics (PK) patients and perform buccal swabs
  • Prepare, stock, and maintain exam rooms and laboratory equipment
  • Verify and prep correct study lab kits for PK patients
  • Respond to queries from study sponsors or contract labs regarding patient and sample data
  • Interface with laboratory personnel and Clinic Research Nurses to ensure correct lab kit availability
  • Utilize electronic medical records for accurate documentation
  • Manage medical supply orders and obtain radiology authorizations

Requirements

  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements for safe handling of blood and body fluids
  • Proficiency in venipuncture and blood processing
  • Experience with computer applications and gathering/reporting information
  • Current BLS certification
  • Medical Assistant training is preferred
  • Experience in a medical clinic, clinical laboratory, or phlebotomy (or equivalent)
