Mechatronics Engineer

Monumental is automating on-site construction with robotics and software. Our mission is to make construction software-defined and autonomous, creating a future where bespoke buildings are constructed with minimal labour.

Responsibilities

• Own entire mechatronic systems from initial idea through to production
• Scope novel capabilities and perform back-of-envelope calculations
• Drive hardware design through prototyping, testing, and validation
• Select actuators and sensors and manage system integration
• Develop simple firmware and debug hardware issues both in-office and on construction sites
• Design for extreme reliability in harsh construction environments
• Build next-gen hardware including high-precision placement systems and hot-swappable end effectors
• Collaborate with electronics and software engineers to ship complete projects

Requirements

• Ability to design hardware from scratch and work at the interface of mechanical, software, and controls
• Experience developing rapid proof-of-concept prototypes
• Proficiency in sourcing components and in-house fabrication (3D printing, CNC milling, or turning)
• Experience integrating actuators, microcontrollers, sensors, and motors
• Ability to write or adapt simple embedded code (Arduino, ESP32, etc.)
• Experience transitioning prototypes to production environments
• Proficiency in clean CAD using Onshape
• B.Sc. in electrical, mechatronics, or robotics engineering or equivalent experience
