About the role

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, lighting, plumbing, HVAC, and related college equipment across all campuses.
  • Install new equipment and alter existing electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems in accordance with all regulations and codes.
  • Utilize blueprints for new and repair projects and provide recommendations for the creation of mechanical/electrical system blueprints.
  • Assist automation system analysts in troubleshooting malfunctions and repairing energy management controls to ensure energy efficiency.
  • Handle hazardous chemicals and perform physical tasks involving lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy equipment.

Requirements

  • Three years of hands-on work experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, or plumbing systems.
  • Completion of a related vocational training program (equivalent to at least one year or 30 semester credits).
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds and climb 30-foot extension ladders.
  • Valid Iowa Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Refrigerant Transition and Recovery universal certificate (or the ability to obtain one within 6 months).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professional relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of hands-on work experience in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing fields.
  • Experience with rooftop units and chiller troubleshooting and repair.
  • Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Valid journeyman or master license in electrical, plumbing, or mechanical trades.
