About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, install, inspect, modify, troubleshoot, and repair facilities fire protection systems and equipment.
  • Perform inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) on various fire sprinkler systems, including wet, dry, deluge, and pre-action systems.
  • Maintain fire pumps, antifreeze systems, and backflow prevention components.
  • Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal standards and regulations.
  • Utilize computerized databases to maintain required records and operate electronic fire alarm system control panels.
  • Consult with engineers to clarify or establish specifications for building mechanical fire protection systems.
  • Provide direction to other employees and communicate effectively across different trades.
  • Maintain availability for after-hours on-call duties and weekend work to support outages.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in the construction of fire sprinkler systems and understanding of piping fabrication hazards.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA codes 13, 14, 16, 20, 25, and 72.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" Security Clearance (requires U.S. citizenship).
  • Ability to obtain 40-hour backflow certification.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of experience as a fully qualified Mechanical Tradesman.
  • Completion of a state-approved mechanical or fire protection sprinkler fitter apprenticeship program.
  • Possession of a sprinkler fitter's journeyman license.
  • NICET Certification or the ability to obtain it.
  • Experience using MAXIMO.
