About the role

Responsibilities

  • Perform planned preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on mechanical assets including conveyors, pumps, pneumatics, and dust extraction systems
  • Diagnose root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to minimize production downtime
  • Install, commission, and upgrade mechanical equipment to support plant optimization and expansion projects
  • Contribute to reliability engineering initiatives such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols, including Lockout-Tagout-Try Out (LOTOTO) and risk assessments
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

Requirements

  • National Diploma (NQF 6) in Mechanical Engineering or Red Seal Trade Test Certification (Mechanical Fitter/Millwright)
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in a heavy manufacturing or processing environment (FMCG, chemical, or mining preferred)
  • Strong technical knowledge of conveyor systems, pumps (centrifugal and positive displacement), and pneumatics
  • Proven experience with dust extraction and air-handling systems
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and schematics
  • Familiarity with CMMS software (e.g., BuildApp)
  • Ability to work shifts and provide standby/after-hours support

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional specialized training in hydraulics or advanced pump systems
  • Exposure to Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) or World Class Manufacturing (WCM) frameworks
