Mechanical Technician II

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical integration of space hardware in a clean environment
• Integrate electrical subassemblies into mechanical housings
• Assemble and focus opto-mechanical subassemblies
• Conduct functional and performance testing of reaction wheel and star tracker subassemblies and units
• Perform final inspections of parts, subassemblies, and integrated units
• Install bearings and apply precision lubricants to rotary components
• Shim reaction wheels to achieve precise clearances and bearing preloads
• Perform component cleaning using ultrasonic and manual methods
• Document all activities and collected data accurately

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience with precision mechanical integration
• Excellent fine motor skills for manipulating small components
• Excellent close-range vision
• Ability to stand and walk for an entire 8+ hour shift
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 lbs
• Ability to work in varied environments including production floors and tight spaces

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with high-reliability aerospace or spacecraft components
• Experience with machined aluminum, bearings, and optics
• Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, and dial gauges
• Experience with metalworking tools like drill presses
• Familiarity with cleanroom and ESD-sensitive hardware best practices
• Ability to use an optical microscope
