Mechanical Technician

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical prototypes in partnership with scientists and engineers using core engineering principles
• Create, update, and release mechanical CAD models and drawings to support builds and documentation
• Build, assemble, and modify prototype hardware, fixtures, and test apparatuses
• Construct, test, troubleshoot, and maintain lab equipment, components, and mechanical systems
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including optics, electronics, and manufacturing
• Document technical work and communicate results to stakeholders

Requirements

• 2-year (AAS) technical degree from an accredited institution
• Proficiency in creating and updating mechanical CAD models and drawings (SolidWorks or similar)
• Experience constructing, testing, and maintaining lab/prototype equipment and mechanical systems
• Strong problem-solving skills, including practical root-cause analysis
• Ability to plan and execute experimental work and maintain high data quality
• Strong safety mindset and adherence to safe work practices in lab and shop environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with metrology and measurement systems (e.g., optical metrology, laser alignment)
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and additive manufacturing (filament and resin printers)
• Experience supporting opto-mechanical test setups and assembly benches
• Experience developing and troubleshooting photonic or optical component assembly processes
• Ability to contribute to technical reports and invention disclosures
