Mechanical Technician

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain mechanical systems in NASA Langley Research Center wind tunnels and cryogenic facilities
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and equipment operation per documented procedures
• Assemble wind tunnel models for testing and install, route, and calibrate instrumentation
• Follow established safety policies, including LOTO and FOD control, to maintain high workmanship standards
• Operate industrial equipment such as forklifts, man-lifts, and cranes
• Work in various environments, including confined spaces and industrial test areas

Requirements

• Two years of college in engineering, mathematics, or science, plus four years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling six years)
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• U.S. Citizenship
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to lift at least 35 lbs and perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders and working in confined spaces
• Willingness to work all shifts and overtime as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the operation and maintenance of rotating machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, pumps, and valves
• Experience with cooling water systems and the production, transfer, or storage of cryogenic liquids
