About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of mechanical design engineers in designing school bus bodies, components, and systems.
- Apply engineering techniques to develop interior/exterior body products and related installations.
- Use CAD principles to develop 3D models, installation drawings, and Bills of Materials.
- Analyze and provide creative, technically feasible solutions to production and build issues.
- Collaborate with Product Strategy, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality departments to implement cost-effective designs.
- Interface with Test & Compliance personnel to prototype systems and perform development testing.
- Manage and prioritize project assignments, providing feedback on team work output and informing management of risks.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- 5+ years of design engineering experience.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD design software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Strong teamwork, cross-functional collaboration, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Creo CAD software.
- Understanding of engineering and manufacturing processes and assembly line problem-solving.
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes (press brake, roll forming, fasteners, stampings, etc.).
- Working knowledge of FMVSS standards as they relate to school buses.
- Project Management skills.
