Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Undertake technical reviews, peer reviews, and design checks to ensure project excellence
• Perform HVAC design tasks including heat load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, and pressure drop calculations
• Execute equipment selection for components such as Chillers, AHUs, FCUs, boilers, fans, and pumps
• Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with the WSP South Africa team
• Supervise, coordinate, and support other project engineers and CAD technicians
• Ensure all designs meet statutory, regulatory, and health and safety requirements
• Prepare technical submittals for various materials and equipment
• Manage delegated tasks to ensure deadlines are met and communicate progress effectively

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in HVAC design of Building Services
• Proven experience with data center projects
• Proficiency in technical software including HAP and Hevacomp
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MEP Revit
• Strong understanding of international ventilation standards (ASHRAE, British Standards, etc.)
• Excellent English communication skills and technical terminology proficiency

Preferred Qualifications

• Membership in an accredited engineering body such as ISHRAE, CIBSE, ASHRAE, or IMECH
• Knowledge of South African National Standards (SANS)
• Exposure to Green Building Design requirements
• Familiarity with electrical and PHE services for design coordination
