Mechanical Engineer (Structures)

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design of Starship production infrastructure ranging from tooling fixtures to entire factory buildings
• Perform structural analysis of steel, concrete, and composite materials using hand calculations and FEA
• Develop structural drawings, connection details, and fabrication packages
• Partner with manufacturing, operations, and construction teams to integrate structural systems
• Support fabrication and construction activities, including review of shop drawings and weld procedures
• Manage project lifecycles from concept through procurement and turnover
• Interface with external engineering firms, consultants, and contractors
• Perform project control functions including scheduling, budgeting, and risk management
• Resolve field conflicts in real time and implement rapid design changes

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, structural, or aerospace engineering
• 1+ years of professional experience in structural design or analysis of steel structures or heavy industrial equipment
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
• Willingness to work in outdoor environments at a remote coastal location
• Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to comply with ITAR regulations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with structural design of large systems using carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum
• Proficiency with structural analysis/FEM software such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, FEMAP, NASTRAN, or ETABS
• Proficiency with 3D modeling tools like Siemens NX or Revit
• Experience with structural detailing, fabrication drawings, and GD&T
• Hands-on experience with fabrication, welding, heavy lift planning, or steel erection
• Familiarity with concrete, foundations, and anchorage integration
