Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and implement tooling and fabrication aids for structural, mechanical, and fluid projects
• Work cross-functionally to minimize safety risks and increase work center efficiency
• Identify, recommend, and procure new fabrication technologies to enhance site capabilities
• Attend design reviews to provide feedback on design-for-manufacturability and build sequencing
• Partner with production planning, machinists, and quality personnel to ensure robust processes
• Rapidly disposition fabrication issues using engineering fundamentals
• Leverage technician feedback to improve work instructions and fabrication processes

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, materials, or other engineering discipline
• 1+ years of experience in fabrication, assembly, or testing in a production or test environment
• Ability to travel to other SpaceX sites (<15% travel)
• Ability to lift up to 40lbs unassisted
• Ability to stand/walk for long periods and work extended hours/weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with 3D CAD software and 2D drawing interpretation
• Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing
• Understanding of fabrication methods across mechanical, structural, and fluid disciplines
• Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems
• Experience with Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)
• Experience writing work instructions for critical aerospace parts
