About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop design concepts from a clean sheet and size vehicle structures based on flight loads
- Collaborate with peers from different vehicle systems to develop designs that balance mass, cost, and capability
- Create detailed designs and generate CAD models in NX for components, assemblies, and vehicle integration
- Build finite element models to assess designs and analyze structures
- Apply first-order hand calculations and empirical formulas to iterate on designs rapidly
- Validate designs by building development articles to test joints and design elements
- Perform structural testing on subassemblies and full sections of the airframe
- Partner with build engineers and technicians to improve designs
- Support hardware assembly in the factory
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 1+ years of engineering experience designing, analyzing, or building structures
- Ability to work in Starbase, Texas (relocation required if not local)
- Ability to safely work at heights (up to 500ft) and in confined spaces
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to comply with ITAR
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NX CAD
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA)
- Experience in a nimble or highly technical engineering organization
- Experience building hardware or working with sheet metal and subassembly design
- Experience with engineering competition teams like Formula SAE or Baja SAE
