About the role
Responsibilities
- Design and analysis of solar array components from photovoltaic cells to integrated electro-mechanical assemblies
- Own and design satellite mechanical systems and associated tooling for solar array sub-assemblies
- Prepare technical design reviews and ensure production outcomes regarding yield, uptime, and cost
- Collaborate with GNC, Avionics, Operations, and Payloads teams
- Provide analytical rationale using hand calculations and FEA
- Complete engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications
- Write and execute test procedures and verification plans
- Design and conduct process qualifications using DOE and statistical process control
- Implement design for manufacturing (DFM) changes with supply chain partners
- Review on-orbit performance data to develop manufacturing and design solutions
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
- 1+ years of professional experience in mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, or manufacturing
- Ability to be on feet for 4+ hours a day and work directly with hardware
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary
- Ability to travel internationally if needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with solar array design or solar manufacturing industry
- Experience with photovoltaic solar cell performance characterization
- Experience qualifying materials and components for space flight
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (NX preferred)
- Proficiency in dynamic and thermal analysis
- Proficiency in GD&T
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes for composites, soft goods, adhesives, and metals
