Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of components, enclosures, and assemblies for space applications
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings with appropriate GD&T
• Improve drive design for weight, stiffness, manufacturability, and ease of integration
• Collaborate with thermal, structural, control, electronic, and optics subsystems
• Support integration, manufacturing, and assembly, including supplier interactions
• Procure mechanical parts and assist in prototype builds, fit checks, and environmental testing
• Manage configuration control and documentation throughout the design lifecycle
• Participate in PDR/CDR reviews and technical trade studies

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline
• 3-6+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally in aerospace
• Advanced proficiency in CAD tools such as NX or SolidWorks
• Strong understanding of materials, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes (CNC, sheet metal, composites, additive manufacturing)
• Proficiency with GD&T standards (ISO or ASME)
• Basic understanding of thermal and structural considerations in space hardware
• Must be a U.S. person (citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or granted asylum) for ITAR compliance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing space mechanisms like deployment systems, actuators, or hinges
• Hands-on experience with testing, integration, or cleanroom assembly
• Competence in FEM for structural analysis
• Knowledge of ECSS/NASA standards
• Basic scripting skills in Python or MATLAB
• Familiarity with PLM and ERP tools
• Spanish proficiency
