About the role

Responsibilities

  • Support the operation, maintenance, and sustainment of mechanical systems including HVAC, water treatment, and process fluid distribution
  • Develop technical system requirements for the design and operation of mechanical systems
  • Support Lifecycle Asset Management by gathering operational and maintenance data to assess component and system performance
  • Provide design scoping and oversight for building, facility, and process mechanical equipment
  • Perform systems analyses and investigative analyses to determine causes of mechanical system failures
  • Conduct and support reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) activities on mechanical systems and components
  • Research and implement innovative techniques to save energy and reduce costs in utility and building mechanical systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field (higher-level degrees such as MS or PhD may be considered)
  • Experience with data analytics techniques and/or RCM maintenance strategies
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, fluid mechanics, water chemistry, and materials properties
  • Experience with system modeling, including fluid flow, acoustic analysis, and heat transfer
  • Ability to assess the condition of mechanical infrastructure assets like boilers, chillers, and air handlers
  • Ability to obtain a Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate and Professional Engineer (PE) license
