Monumental is automating on-site construction with robotics and software. Our mission is to make construction software-defined and autonomous, creating a future where beautiful, bespoke buildings are constructed with minimal labour.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanisms for end effectors, scaffolding retrofits, autonomous ground vehicles, and mortar pumping systems
• Own the entire engineering process from hardware concept design to prototyping and testing
• Perform material selection and simulate static/dynamic loads, stresses, and vibrations using hand calculations or FEA
• Fabricate proof-of-concept prototypes using 3D printing, CNC milling, or turning
• Assemble and wire prototypes with necessary actuators and electronics
• Test prototypes in the workshop and on actual construction sites
• Integrate hardware designs into the software and perception stack
• Productize successful prototypes by producing clean CADs in OnShape and technical documentation for small series production

Requirements

• Proven record of being a builder and working autonomously on shipped projects
• Experience designing and delivering products from concept to low series volume
• Proficiency in rapid prototyping, 3D printing, machining, and milling
• Deep knowledge of mechanical systems and structural dynamics (statics, mechanics of materials, dynamics, vibrations)
• Expertise in 3D CAD modeling (OnShape, Solidworks, or Siemens NX)
• Expertise in multi-physics simulations (FEA) using tools like Comsol or Ansys
• Experience selecting and integrating electronic components like actuators, sensors, and cameras

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to write embedded code in C or C++
• B.Sc. in mechanical, mechatronics, or robotics engineering
