About the role
Responsibilities
- Own critical parts of current generation Whoop hardware products
- Design, prototype, and test complex mechanical components around microelectronics to meet technical and industrial design requirements
- Develop and present multiple design solutions for complex technical challenges to cross-functional teams
- Generate technical documentation including 3D files, 2D drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Conduct DfM reviews and communicate engineering requests to vendors and contract manufacturers
- Drive second sourcing initiatives for mechanical components to diversify the supply base and reduce risk
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement design improvements for quality, reliability, and performance
- Support the execution of verification and validation plans using DOE methodologies
- Travel up to 20% internationally to visit contract manufacturers and suppliers
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in the design of complex mechanical products (consumer electronics, wearables, or medical devices preferred)
- Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD, including advanced assemblies and tolerance analysis
- Experience applying DfM/DFx feedback to designs
- Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping tools for proof-of-concept models
- Strong communication skills and experience working with cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in high-volume manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding or sheet metal design
- Familiarity with validation testing methods and statistical analysis tools
- Experience in a fast-paced startup environment
- A passion for health, fitness, and human-centered wearable technology
