Mechanical Engineer II

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design efforts from cradle to grave for reentry vehicles, including primary/secondary structures, payload accommodations, and thermal protection system interfaces
• Partner with propulsion and avionics teams to design and deliver critical mechanical systems
• Size, package, and integrate flight components and subassemblies using CAD software
• Analyze flight and non-flight components using finite element analysis and hand calculations
• Develop test plans and equipment for environmental testing including vibration, shock, static load, and thermal testing

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• 2+ years of hands-on experience developing mechanical systems, structures, or aerospace vehicles
• Strong practical mechanical design skills (mechanisms, packaging, high-load environments)
• High familiarity with CAD software such as Siemens NX
• Familiarity with FEA software (ANSYS Mechanical, NASTRAN, FEMAP, or similar)
• Experience producing engineering drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
• Hands-on vehicle integration or design for manufacturing experience
• History of mechanical design product ownership from cradle to grave
• Experience with vehicle-level flight test campaigns and hardware qualification (SMC-S016, SpaceX RPUG)
• Prior experience in the design and test of qualified space-flight hardware
