Carnegie Robotics designs and manufactures advanced robotics systems and components for defense, agricultural, mining, industrial, and off-road autonomy applications. Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering tasks across the whole product lifecycle from concept to fielded products
  • Model parts and assemblies in CAD (Solidworks) for mechanism and sensor design
  • Design mechanisms with multiple degrees of freedom
  • Identify mechanical risks and model failures using hand calculations, Python, FEA (Ansys), and CFD simulations
  • Create manufacturing drawings using GD&T and work with suppliers on manufacturability
  • Prototype in-house using waterjet, laser cutter, mill, lathe, and 3D printers
  • Test sensors and subassemblies using thermal chambers and vibration tables
  • Collaborate with software, electrical, and systems engineers
  • Transition prototype products to production validated builds

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering
  • Background in product design integrating mechanisms and electronics
  • Strong proficiency with CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks
  • Solid background in engineering analysis including bearing life, motor loads, and material selection
  • Experience with COTS trade studies and make-versus-buy decisions
  • Authorization to work for any US employer without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with passive thermal design, environmental sealing, and custom gear trains
  • Familiarity with GD&T drawings and BOM management
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming language
  • Experience in production-level design and testing methods
