About the role

About the Company

fab2 designs and builds all the hardware and software needed to make chips, including the fabs, tools, and components themselves. Founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller, the team focuses on iterating to the limits of what's possible in semiconductor manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Design and iterate on precision machines, motion stages, structural loops, metrology frames, and opto-mechanical mounts
  • Lead mechanical system integration, alignment procedures, and cross-team coordination with electrical, controls, and optics engineers
  • Drive mechanical design of frames, stages, and assemblies with GD&T and tolerance analysis
  • Rapidly prototype, build, and characterize new designs on the bench
  • Select and integrate precision components such as bearings, encoders, and actuators
  • Develop error budgets and tolerance stack-ups to mitigate thermal, vibrational, and structural errors

Requirements

  • 3 years designing and building precision mechanical systems with high accuracy and repeatability targets
  • Fluency in precision machine design: exact-constraint design, kinematic couplings, flexures, and error budgeting
  • Hands-on prototyping, fabrication, assembly, and alignment experience
  • Experience with dimensional metrology including interferometry, LVDTs, and CMMs
  • Ability to provide a portfolio of built projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal training in precision engineering
  • Experience at an early-stage startup
  • Familiarity with firmware, controls, or electrical engineering
  • Opto-mechanical design and alignment experience
