About the role

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to mechanical design packages across feasibility, optioneering, concept, outline and detailed design for UK water/wastewater treatment projects
  • Prepare mechanical calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, technical notes, P&IDs, layouts, drawings and procurement documentation
  • Support equipment sizing and selection for assets such as pumps, pipework, tanks, valves, penstocks, screens, grit removal plant, odour control systems, lifting equipment and packaged plant
  • Attend site visits, asset surveys and data collection activities
  • Support multidisciplinary coordination with Process, EICA, civil/structural, architectural and construction teams
  • Contribute to CDM/safety-by-design reviews, design risk assessments, constructability reviews and commissioning/handover support
  • Use digital tools, spreadsheets, models and data analysis to improve design quality, efficiency and consistency

Requirements

  • BEng/MEng or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
  • 4+ years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience
  • Background in water, wastewater, biosolids/bioresources or oil & gas
  • Experience preparing mechanical design deliverables (calculations, specifications, datasheets, etc.)
  • Understanding of mechanical equipment, pumping systems, pipework, valves and associated treatment or process plant
  • Working knowledge of CDM/safety-by-design and design risk management
  • Ability to travel to operational works, construction sites and supplier facilities
  • Right to work in the UK

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in municipal water treatment, wastewater treatment, sludge/bioresources, or water reuse
  • Exposure to AMP8, WINEP, SROs, D&B, framework or alliance delivery environments
  • Experience with pump selection, headloss calculations, hydraulic analysis, P&IDs, or 3D/BIM coordination
  • Progress towards IEng or CEng with a relevant professional institution (e.g., IMechE)
