Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze mechanical structures for the Central Solenoid (CS) magnet using hand calculations and FEA
• Perform CAD and drafting of components for complex mechanical systems operating in extreme environments
• Develop test plans and provide hands-on support during test execution and production
• Design test or tooling hardware to support magnet development
• Present completed designs to peers and executive leadership for technical review
• Integrate with existing company methodologies for analysis and documentation

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in heavy engineering (aerospace, marine, or civil structures)
• Proficiency in structural analysis using FEA and hand calculations
• Experience with superconducting magnet design or vacuum vessel design
• Knowledge of composite layups and epoxy resin systems
• Proficiency in CAD (NX preferred) and Mechanical FEA (Ansys preferred)
• Understanding of thermal conduction, transients, and electrical resistance networks
• Ability to work in an industrial facility with hazards including high voltage, cryogenics, and strong magnets
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical inspections on the production floor

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Maxwell’s equations
• Strong technical communication and presentation skills
• Proficiency with Python and MATLAB
