Mechanical Designer/Prototyping Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical parts, assemblies, fixtures, enclosures, and integration components for unmanned and ground systems
• Execute rapid iteration cycles by adapting designs based on feedback from testing and operational use
• Develop robust designs optimized for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA)
• Perform hands-on fabrication using 3D printers, hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery
• Assemble and integrate electromechanical prototypes, including sensors, antennas, and power components
• Test prototypes in workshop and field environments to identify and resolve mechanical weaknesses
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across hardware, software, and production to meet mission requirements
• Maintain technical documentation, including CAD files, assembly instructions, and parts lists

Requirements

• 5+ years of practical experience in mechanical design, prototyping, or hardware development
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar
• Proven hands-on experience building, modifying, and testing physical prototypes
• Expertise in 3D printing technologies (FDM, and ideally SLA/SLS)
• Strong understanding of tolerances, materials, mechanical interfaces, and environmental loads
• Ability to obtain EU/NATO security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in defense, aerospace, UAVs, robotics, or motorsport environments
• Experience designing components for drones, sensor payloads, or ruggedized hardware
• Knowledge of composite materials, sheet metal, or lightweight structural components
• Experience with CNC machining, laser cutting, or other rapid manufacturing methods
• Familiarity with electronics integration, such as cable routing and connector mounting
• Proficiency in both English and German
