Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of various systems and sub-systems including boring machine parts, support equipment, and tunnel infrastructure
• Act as a subject matter expert for mechanical design projects, providing direction to team members
• Employ hand calculations, FEA, and CAD to develop and communicate complex designs
• Own project schedules from conception to implementation and communicate updates to stakeholders
• Ensure all systems are compliant with relevant regulations such as MSHA, OSHA, and NFPA
• Evaluate how individual design choices fit into the larger operational picture and future developments

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 6+ years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role or relevant position
• Hands-on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly, and/or testing
• Proficiency in CAD and FEA
• Willingness to travel as required to commission designs and troubleshoot existing systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 2+ years of experience creating and reviewing manufacturing drawings
• High level of proficiency in machine design and mechatronics
• Knowledge of fluid power system concepts, dynamics, and material selection
• Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines
