About the role

About the Company

Odys builds safe, sustainable aircraft to cut travel time in half on the world's busiest corridors. Their flagship aircraft, Alta, and UAV, Laila, focus on reducing CO2 emissions and providing efficient transport for logistics, medical, and defense missions.

Responsibilities

  • Own the mechanical design and integration of propulsion components including motors, generators, inverters, turbines, structures, and cooling systems
  • Drive resolution of hardware issues discovered during prototype and early production builds
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using GD&T and tolerance stackups
  • Perform DFM/DFA trade studies balancing weight, cost, thermal performance, and reliability
  • Work with suppliers and internal teams to assess manufacturing feasibility and refine designs
  • Support hands-on prototype assembly, integration, and test, including debugging and root cause analysis
  • Conduct engineering analysis using hand calculations and FEA to inform design decisions
  • Implement and refine thermal management strategies such as air/liquid cooling and heat sinks
  • Document designs, analyses, and design changes clearly

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience in mechanical design of complex systems
  • Experience owning a critical assembly or subsystem from concept through build and test
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (NX preferred) and production-quality drawings with GD&T
  • Strong understanding of tolerance stack-ups and real-world integration
  • Experience designing for machining, sheet metal, and additive manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting hardware
  • Comfort working on electromechanical systems like motors, power electronics, and cooling systems
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and drive corrective actions
  • Experience in fast-paced, iterative hardware development environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with propulsion systems or rotating machinery
  • Background in thermal management of high-power systems
  • Experience performing thermal or structural analysis (FEA, CFD)
  • Familiarity with PLM systems (Teamcenter preferred)
  • Background in aerospace, automotive (EV/powertrain), or robotics
