About the role

Responsibilities

  • Support NASA's future space exploration activities by designing, developing, and testing technical products and systems
  • Analyze requirements and develop design solutions within a team environment
  • Perform engineering design evaluations and produce engineering drawings conforming to applicable standards
  • Conduct dimensional tolerance analyses, including thermal effects and GD&T
  • Perform functional, structural, and thermal analyses of parts and assemblies
  • Support designs with hand calculations for fit, function, strength, and thermal response
  • Prepare and present technical documentation at various design reviews

Requirements

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience designing parts and assemblies using 3D CAD modeling software
  • Experience producing drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5 standards
  • Proficiency in applying tolerance analyses, including thermal effects and GD&T
  • Knowledge of machine shop processes and rapid prototyping (3D printing)
  • Experience with both structural and thermal analysis of parts and assemblies
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior NASA (especially JSC) or aerospace development and manufacturing experience
  • Familiarity with JSC Engineering Drawing System Manual (JPR 8500) or Fabrication Tolerances (SKZ36103755)
  • Experience designing NASA flight hardware
  • Experience with mechanisms or robotics design
  • Proficiency using PTC CREO or Pro/Engineer and related extensions
  • Experience leading technical design teams and mentoring junior engineers
