Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs on school district vehicles, including buses, trucks, cars, and trailers
• Maintain thorough knowledge of automobile and truck functions, air-conditioning systems, welding, transmissions, drive lines, and brake systems
• Ensure all vehicles operate in a safe and efficient manner to maximize vehicle life
• Notify supervisors immediately of any mechanical conditions that pose a danger to vehicle operation
• Observe all safety standards and maintain a safe and healthy work environment
• Instruct and supervise Mechanic Assistants
• Respond to calls after regular hours and on weekends as needed
• Assist in driving bus routes if required

Requirements

• Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine repairs
• Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record
• Valid Class A or B Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with P and S endorsements (or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment)
• Proficiency in using various vehicle repair tools
• Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions in emergency situations
• Ability to perform physical tasks including stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and standing in various weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• ASE certification
