About the role
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and perform engine or mechanical repairs on gasoline and diesel vehicles and heavy equipment, including graders, dozers, loaders, and excavators
- Troubleshoot and assess mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems using computer diagnostics and manual inspection
- Conduct regular safety and maintenance inspections to ensure optimum performance and safety of County-owned equipment
- Perform specialized functions including welding, machining, paint, bodywork, and tire repairs
- Design, modify, and install hydraulic and electrical systems and other special accessories
- Maintain accurate and detailed maintenance, repair, and inspection records
- Operate and road test equipment to verify repair quality and identify defects
- Assist in training and guiding new or supporting personnel
Requirements
- Five (5) years of experience in a gasoline and/or diesel mechanical repair facility
- Journeyman level mechanical skills in engine diagnosis, transmission repair, electrical troubleshooting, and hydraulic analysis
- Valid Driver’s License without restrictions
- Ability to furnish personal tools up to 1-1/8 inches
- Knowledge of heavy road maintenance and construction equipment
- Must obtain and maintain a Class A CDL with tanker and airbrake endorsements within one year of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE Certification as a Master Heavy Duty Truck Technician
- Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker and Air Brake endorsements at the time of application
