About the role
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and perform mechanical repairs on gasoline and diesel vehicles and heavy equipment, including passenger vehicles, graders, dozers, loaders, and excavators.
- Conduct regular safety and maintenance inspections to ensure optimum performance and safety of County-owned assets.
- Troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic systems and perform necessary repairs or installations.
- Perform specialized functions such as welding, painting, bodywork, and tire repairs.
- Maintain accurate and detailed maintenance, repair, and inspection records.
- Road test equipment to verify repair quality and identify defects.
- Collaborate with other Public Works divisions and assist in training new personnel.
Requirements
- 5 years of experience in a gasoline and/or diesel mechanical repair facility.
- Proven skills in engine diagnosis, transmission repair, electrical troubleshooting, hydraulic repair, and brake maintenance.
- Knowledge of body repair, painting, welding, and tire replacement.
- Valid Driver’s License without restrictions (must obtain Class A CDL with tanker and airbrake endorsements within one year).
- Ability to furnish personal tools up to 1-1/8 inches.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE Certification as a Master Heavy Duty Truck Technician.
- Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker and Air Brake endorsements at the time of application.
