About the role
Responsibilities
- Prepare test specimens and perform laboratory experiments including mechanical and electrochemical testing
- Conduct materials characterization such as metallographic sample preparation, microscopy, and hardness testing
- Operate industry standard and customized testing equipment in extreme environments (cryogenic and high temperature)
- Maintain detailed documentation, data management, and reporting of test results
- Support laboratory equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation
- Manage inventory for consumables and spare parts
- Execute technical tasks in accordance with standard operating procedures and safety protocols
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate or higher
- Minimum 2 years of experience with basic materials preparation and testing tools
- Minimum 2 years of experience with technical support skills (e.g., mechanical/electrical assembly, vacuum systems, or wiring)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical activities like standing or sitting for extended periods
- Ability to work the second shift (2:00 PM - 11:00 PM)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Instron-based mechanical test systems and Bluehill/Wavematrix software
- Experience with optical or electron microscopy
- Experience working with cryogens such as Liquid Nitrogen or Liquid Helium
- Experience operating shop equipment like band saws, drill presses, or grinders
- Knowledge of testing to industry or international standards
