Materials Test Operator

Responsibilities

• Prepare test specimens and perform laboratory experiments including mechanical and electrochemical testing
• Conduct materials characterization such as metallographic sample preparation, microscopy, and hardness testing
• Operate industry standard and customized testing equipment in extreme environments (cryogenic and high temperature)
• Maintain detailed documentation, data management, and reporting of test results
• Support laboratory equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation
• Manage inventory for consumables and spare parts
• Execute technical tasks in accordance with standard operating procedures and safety protocols

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate or higher
• Minimum 2 years of experience with basic materials preparation and testing tools
• Minimum 2 years of experience with technical support skills (e.g., mechanical/electrical assembly, vacuum systems, or wiring)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical activities like standing or sitting for extended periods
• Ability to work the second shift (2:00 PM - 11:00 PM)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Instron-based mechanical test systems and Bluehill/Wavematrix software
• Experience with optical or electron microscopy
• Experience working with cryogens such as Liquid Nitrogen or Liquid Helium
• Experience operating shop equipment like band saws, drill presses, or grinders
• Knowledge of testing to industry or international standards
