About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct advanced materials characterization using Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES), Laser Scanning Confocal Microscopy (LSCM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and optical microscopy.
- Plan, conceive, and lead research and development projects for national security customers and sponsors.
- Perform data analysis, statistical error analysis, and information extraction to interpret surface composition and roughness.
- Develop new characterization techniques and capabilities, specifically focusing on AES and LSCM.
- Design and conduct systematic investigations to deepen the understanding of fundamental material properties.
- Communicate findings through formal reports, technical presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
- Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent security clearance.
- Experience with materials characterization techniques.
- Proven research and development experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Materials Science or a highly related field.
- Demonstrated experience with AES, LSCM, or XPS analysis.
- Proficiency with data analysis and image processing tools such as MATLAB.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams consisting of experimentalists, modelers, and theorists.
- Ability to write operating procedures, methods of analysis, and laboratory protocols.
