Materials Science Degree Apprenticeship

Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on laboratory and project experience in the development and characterisation of advanced ceramic-based materials
• Work on R&D projects involving 3D printing, ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), and geopolymers
• Collaborate with world-leading scientists and engineers on commercially relevant projects in sectors such as Aerospace, Energy, Healthcare, Automotive, and Nuclear
• Build technical skills in materials science, equipment operation, and project management
• Complete a 48-month Materials Science Technologist Degree Apprenticeship in partnership with the University of Derby, consisting of 80% on-site work and 20% off-the-job learning

Requirements

• 2 A Levels at Grade B or above, including Maths and either Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering (or equivalent such as T Levels)
• 5 GCSEs at Grade 6/B or above, including Maths, English, and either Physics or Chemistry
• A natural curiosity and a proactive, hands-on approach to learning
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous exposure to laboratory work, engineering, or materials science through education, personal projects, or work experience
