Materials Lab Technician II

Responsibilities

• Prepare, test, evaluate, and certify metallurgical tests per production and customer specifications
• Operate testing equipment including Instron tensile frames, metallography tools, XRF, SEM, and hardness testers
• Check test samples using precision measuring equipment like calipers, micrometers, and gages
• Monitor work to ensure quality standards and specifications are met
• Interface with engineering to coordinate testing and results
• Maintain accurate lab databases and a clean, compliant work environment
• Support internal and external metallurgical audits
• Program and run lab heat treat ovens for test coupons and production parts

Requirements

• 2+ years of metallurgical lab experience or related functions
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Familiarity with technical drawings, testing specifications, and hand tools
• Working knowledge of alloys such as Ni, Cu, and Ti
• Experience testing carbon composite materials
• Ability to stand and walk for entire shifts and perform repetitive motions
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with tensile testing of metallic and composite materials
• Experience with test coupon preparation (cutting, mounting, polishing, etching)
• Experience with macro and micro hardness testing
• Experience with optical microscopy and round robin testing
• Knowledge of quality control, customer, and NADCAP requirements
