Materials Engineer

Responsibilities

• Perform root cause failure analysis on components, mechanical assemblies, systems, and manufacturing materials
• Serve as the primary Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) operator
• Conduct metallurgical evaluations, fracture analysis, and testing for tensile strength, peel strength, hardness, and fatigue
• Utilize analytical tools including EDS, WDS, universal testing machines, thermal analysis tools, and optical microscopes
• Author formal technical analysis reports to substantiate failure conclusions and recommend solutions
• Maintain laboratory tools and assist with audit preparations
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists

Requirements

• BS degree in Materials Science or a similar field with 5 years of experience, or an advanced degree with 3 years of experience
• Theoretical knowledge of lab analytical tools such as SEM, EDS/WDS, optical microscopes, and universal testing machines
• Ability to independently author cogent technical reports and deliver presentations to stakeholders
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Materials Science or a related engineering field
• Experience with sample preparation techniques and Focused Ion Beam (FIB)
• Knowledge of industry standards such as ASTM, MIL-STD, or IPC
• Experience with CAD design tools (SOLIDWORKS, Catia, or PTC Creo)
• Proficiency with data analysis tools like MATLAB or Mathcad
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, ABAQUS) or image processing using machine learning
• Familiarity with in-situ experimentation methods in SEM
