About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform root cause failure analysis on components, mechanical assemblies, systems, and manufacturing materials
- Serve as the primary Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) operator
- Conduct metallurgical evaluations, fracture analysis, and testing for tensile strength, peel strength, hardness, and fatigue
- Utilize analytical tools including EDS, WDS, universal testing machines, thermal analysis tools, and optical microscopes
- Author formal technical analysis reports to substantiate failure conclusions and recommend solutions
- Maintain laboratory tools and assist with audit preparations
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists
Requirements
- BS degree in Materials Science or a similar field with 5 years of experience, or an advanced degree with 3 years of experience
- Theoretical knowledge of lab analytical tools such as SEM, EDS/WDS, optical microscopes, and universal testing machines
- Ability to independently author cogent technical reports and deliver presentations to stakeholders
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- U.S. citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Materials Science or a related engineering field
- Experience with sample preparation techniques and Focused Ion Beam (FIB)
- Knowledge of industry standards such as ASTM, MIL-STD, or IPC
- Experience with CAD design tools (SOLIDWORKS, Catia, or PTC Creo)
- Proficiency with data analysis tools like MATLAB or Mathcad
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, ABAQUS) or image processing using machine learning
- Familiarity with in-situ experimentation methods in SEM
