Materials Engineer II

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of new formulations of cement-based 3D-printable materials and optimize existing mix designs
• Execute testing programs focused on the performance evaluation of 3D-printed materials and structures
• Participate in full-scale material testing campaigns and collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Troubleshoot material performance in Vulcan and Magma systems and provide feedback for improvements
• Support projects through development, design, construction, and post-construction phases
• Generate test reports and presentations to communicate material performance
• Assist with the development of R&D initiatives, programs, and proposals
• Develop one-off test methods and adapt standardized testing procedures for 3D-printed applications
• Provide support and training to laboratory personnel
• Perform tasks in office, laboratory, and field environments

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or Material Science (focus on cement-based materials), or Master’s with 3+ years of industry experience, or BS with 5+ years of industry experience
• Knowledge of concrete and cement-based materials science and technology
• Experience evaluating cement-based materials using ASTM, EN, or ISO standards
• Experience in development, optimization, and troubleshooting of concrete mixtures or cement-based products
• Sound understanding of concrete structural performance
• Experience in the development of concrete specifications
• Ability to analyze large data sets and draw data-driven conclusions
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Willingness to travel up to 30%

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous start-up experience
• Ability to learn hardware, control, and software systems related to large-scale 3D printing
• Proficiency in software tools for data analysis, data acquisition, and materials performance modeling
