About the role
Responsibilities
- Operate small reaction systems and benchtop lab process units to support materials synthesis
- Perform characterization of catalytic materials using advanced analytical techniques
- Support research, development, and optimization of catalytic materials by providing data on thermal stability, surface properties, and active site density
- Manage benchtop formulation and lab reactor operations, including safe execution of experimental programs
- Maintain reactor systems and analytical equipment, including troubleshooting, unit design, and inventory management
- Perform technical writing and maintain electronic files, including P&IDs and unit flow diagrams
Requirements
- B.S. degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field
- Hands-on experience in laboratory operations (e.g., batch/continuous reactors, titration, distillation, chromatography, or glove box work)
- Proficiency with characterization techniques such as chemisorption, physisorption, GC, IR, NMR, DSC/TGA, XRD, or SEM
- Strong knowledge of scientific concepts including gas laws, chemical concentrations, and mass/energy balances
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and scientific software for hardware control and calculations
- Familiarity with pressurized equipment, pumps, compressors, and computerized unit controls
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with organic and/or inorganic synthesis
- Experience with advanced sorption modeling and thermal analysis software
- Knowledge of heterogeneous catalysis and industrial applications
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Origin or MATLAB
