About the role

Responsibilities

  • Assist machine shop personnel with machine tool installations, setups, and removals
  • Handle and dispose of waste materials including lubricating oils, coolant, and scrap
  • Clean and maintain shop equipment, machines, and work areas
  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, hydraulic lifts, and other handling equipment
  • Perform machine tool coolant recycling and waste management
  • Maintain shop supplies, vacuum systems, and waste accumulation areas
  • Prepare finished parts for shipment and perform general shop housekeeping
  • Inspect eyewash and emergency lighting systems and maintain inspection logs

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED, or certificate in machine tool, sheet metal, welding technology, or equivalent shop experience
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to follow written policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to operate material handling equipment including forklifts and overhead cranes
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to obtain an on-site fork truck license
  • Ability to become medically qualified to wear respiratory and protection equipment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
  • Ability to comply with Safety, ES&H, Security, and business management policies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in shop math, mechanical drawing, and blueprint reading
  • Experience working in a machine shop environment using basic hand tools and power saws
  • Experience with quality and productivity procedures
  • Experience with LLNL ES&H procedures
