About the role
Responsibilities
- Operate small reactor systems and benchtop lab process units to test materials, catalysts, and processes
- Support research, development, and optimization of processes and catalytic materials
- Perform catalyst loading, feed blending, preparation, and data analysis/workup
- Conduct selected analytical testing and troubleshoot reactor units
- Manage equipment and sample inventory
- Prioritize safe operation, identify potential safety issues, and propose solutions
- Work directly with research investigators to execute experimental work directions
Requirements
- B.S. degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related scientific field
- Hands-on experience in laboratory operations (e.g., batch/continuous reactors, titration, distillation, chromatography)
- Experience with pressurized equipment, pumps, compressors, gauges, and sensors
- Experience with analytical equipment such as GC and MS
- Knowledge of scientific concepts including gas laws, mass and energy balances, and chemical concentrations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong familiarity with safe laboratory practices and handling hazardous chemicals
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Familiarity with commonly used lab-scale componentry
- Knowledge of heterogeneous catalysis and industrial applications
