About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and management for the Master Gardener program in Whatcom County
  • Recruit, train, lead, and support over 100 WSU-trained volunteers
  • Establish and maintain networks of empowered teams to carry out program activities
  • Collaborate with the Whatcom County Master Gardener Foundation, office staff, and county director
  • Prepare briefings and written reports for the university, foundation, and elected officials regarding program outcomes
  • Ensure program alignment with WSU policies and community service deliverables

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two years of related program experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet departmental driving standards
  • Ability to travel within targeted counties
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional nights and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, both orally and in writing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel and Workday
  • Knowledge of WSU Business Policies and Procedures regarding personnel, finance, and administration
  • Experience working in higher education, local/state agencies, or equivalent environments
