Marine Safety Officer

Responsibilities

• Enforce Michigan Marine Safety Laws and promote safe boating practices on county waterways
• Patrol county waters during peak recreational periods (Memorial Day to Labor Day)
• Investigate water-related incidents and provide assistance to boaters
• Conduct public boating and ORV safety classes year-round
• Collaborate with area first responders during emergencies

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license
• Knowledge of Michigan Marine Law
• Physical fitness and ability to handle water-related emergencies
• Ability to pass extensive background checks and drug testing
• Proficiency in report writing and LEIN certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous law enforcement experience
• Familiarity with Kent County geography and local waterways
• Experience operating and trailering various types and sizes of watercraft
