About the role
Responsibilities
- Review all court documents served or filed through the D.C. Managing Attorney’s Office for accuracy, form, and procedural compliance
- Conduct legal research to advise litigators on procedural matters and ensure compliance with court rules
- Provide procedural guidance to attorneys regarding motion practice and policies in D.C. state and federal courts
- Assist with service of process issues, including coordinating with process servers
- Monitor new cases and rule changes under D.C. state rules, FRCP, and FRAP to keep attorneys informed
- Handle electronic case filings via CM/ECF and state court systems, and coordinate hard copy filings
- Retrieve and analyze information from court databases and applications such as PACER, Bloomberg Law, CourtAlert, and Westlaw
- Screen incoming court documents to calculate and calendar deadlines using the firm’s docketing system
- Perform quality control reviews of docket and calendar entries to ensure accuracy
- Ensure timely notification to attorneys regarding filing deadlines and court appearances
- Maintain and update attorney information, including bar admissions and e-filing credentials
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Admission to the Washington D.C. Bar
- Minimum of five years of experience in a Managing Attorney’s Office at a large law firm
- Comprehensive knowledge of Washington, D.C. federal and state court systems, rules, and procedures
- Experience supervising staff within a Managing Attorney’s Office is strongly preferred
