About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all associated equipment and services in all buildings
- Develop procedures of operations and initiate daily/preventative maintenance work orders
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and systems to minimize downtime
- Coordinate work between contractors, trades, and UTSC staff
- Manage and delegate work to Lead Hands, Shift Engineers, and Maintenance Operating Engineers
- Direct all stages of projects including design, cost estimates, implementation, and commissioning
- Use Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) techniques to plan annual maintenance schedules
- Develop maintenance budgets based on predicted costs and analyze equipment end-of-life for replacement recommendations
- Act as the Assistant Director, Engineering and Physical Plant in their absence
Requirements
- Undergraduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensed in Ontario and in good standing with PEO
- 7-8 years of trade or building operations experience depending on specific certifications
- 2-4 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment
- Extensive knowledge of heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning, and steam plants
- Experience managing projects, budgets, and procurement
- Proficiency with computer-based maintenance management systems and MS Office
- Understanding of TSSA regulations and Ontario Building Code
- Experience with labour relations and collective agreements
