About the role

Responsibilities

  • Manage the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all associated equipment and services in all buildings
  • Develop procedures of operations and initiate daily/preventative maintenance work orders
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and systems to minimize downtime
  • Coordinate work between contractors, trades, and UTSC staff
  • Manage and delegate work to Lead Hands, Shift Engineers, and Maintenance Operating Engineers
  • Direct all stages of projects including design, cost estimates, implementation, and commissioning
  • Use Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) techniques to plan annual maintenance schedules
  • Develop maintenance budgets based on predicted costs and analyze equipment end-of-life for replacement recommendations
  • Act as the Assistant Director, Engineering and Physical Plant in their absence

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensed in Ontario and in good standing with PEO
  • 7-8 years of trade or building operations experience depending on specific certifications
  • 2-4 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Extensive knowledge of heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning, and steam plants
  • Experience managing projects, budgets, and procurement
  • Proficiency with computer-based maintenance management systems and MS Office
  • Understanding of TSSA regulations and Ontario Building Code
  • Experience with labour relations and collective agreements
