About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day delivery of front-line payroll and benefit services across multiple University portfolios within a shared services model.
- Oversee client relationships to ensure payroll delivery is proactive, collaborative, and integrated with divisional HR needs.
- Audit, investigate, and resolve complex escalated issues related to payroll and benefits.
- Implement the overarching shared services strategy for payroll and benefits administration, ensuring consistent policy application.
- Manage business process improvement projects to identify efficiencies and enhance the client experience.
- Lead a team of payroll and benefits professionals, fostering a high-performance, client-focused culture.
- Represent shared service divisions on tri-campus committees and institutional special projects.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in payroll, human resources, finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of a CPM certificate or current enrollment in Canadian Payroll Association courses leading toward the CPM certificate.
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience overseeing a shared service payroll function.
- Experience working within a large public-sector, unionized environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing and motivating staff.
- Expert experience working with HRIS/FIS systems, preferably in an SAP/SAP HCM environment.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business process reengineering skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply employment legislation, collective agreement provisions, and Canadian taxation laws.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience overseeing payroll within an academic environment.
- Benefits designation.
- Project Management certification.
