About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational direction for the Tanz Centre for Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases and the Toronto Dementia Research Alliance.
  • Manage complex, multi-million dollar budgets, including forecasting expenditures and conducting deep financial analyses.
  • Lead and mentor high-functioning teams, ensuring effective HR management and interpretation of collective agreements within a unionized environment.
  • Oversee operational efficiency, including investment and research accounts and administrative processes.
  • Support strategic planning initiatives and academic appointment/promotion processes for faculty and researchers.
  • Manage laboratory renovations, capital projects, and space management.
  • Foster effective relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external constituents.

Requirements

  • University degree in business, accounting, finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years in a progressive administrative leadership role, preferably in a research or academic setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management and research administration.
  • Proven experience in team leadership, mentoring, and managing staff within a unionized environment.
  • Proficiency with Administrative Management Systems (AMS) and project management tools.
  • Knowledge of laboratory renovations, capital projects, and space management.
  • Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized professional accounting program (CPA).
  • Direct experience with the University of Toronto’s budget models, policies, and systems.
