About the role

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop assembly process flows and build subassemblies for quantum computer subsystems with electronics and silicon photonics chips on PCBAs for cryogenic and room-temperature vacuum systems
  • Finalize design and assembly process flows using DFM, DFQ, and FMEA tools to meet subsystem team targets and requirements
  • Deliver and verify equipment, tooling, and fixtures; complete process development, capability analysis, and buyoff
  • Release design documents, work instructions, and control plans; train, audit, and release processes to operations for volume assembly build
  • Manage in-house processes with the Operations team and contractor manufacturing for external processes; provide process technical support
  • Manage budget, capex, and hiring per AOP, including assembly tools and machines
  • Track project deliverables, execution milestones, and schedules for internal and external suppliers

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or Applied Physics
  • 10+ years of experience applying engineering principles to solve complex opto-mechanical assembly process problems
  • Experience with optical and photonics assembly and inspection equipment, processes, and material systems (die attach, wire bonding, optical coupling, flip chip, underfill)
  • Familiarity with key opto-mechanical packaging and assembly equipment, piece-part supplier base, and quality systems
  • Experience in design, analysis, and assembly of subsystems; build NPI pilot line, transfer process to operation, and support manufacturing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to provide technical leadership in ambiguous situations
  • Strong management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing opto-mechanical process teams in startups or large companies with a proven track record bringing products to volume in datacom, telecom, or optical communication
  • Demonstrated ability to manage short deadlines and follow disciplined work processes in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills across all organizational levels
  • Hands-on leadership with willingness to engage in day-to-day tasks to assure peak performance and a safe work environment
