About the role
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical owner of NDT Operations and the industrial Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for all RT activities onsite.
- Develop and maintain organizational NDT capabilities, identifying technology gaps to scale from SPARC manufacturing to future ARC power plants.
- Own the radiation protection program, including licensing, regulatory interface, and incident response.
- Act as the Responsible Level III and Certifying Authority for NDT personnel qualification and certification programs.
- Oversee NDT execution across manufacturing, construction, tokamak assembly, and vendor sites to ensure safety and compliance.
- Audit NDT technicians and work instructions to ensure alignment with engineering requirements and applicable codes.
- Partner with NDT engineering and training teams to establish technician competency and training frameworks.
- Use NDT results to drive continuous improvement and inform nonconformances and RCCA.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Electrical, or related discipline).
- 12+ years of NDT experience on critical components such as heavy-wall welds or complex geometries.
- 5+ years of experience as a Radiation Safety Officer.
- 3+ years of experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
- Level 2 or 3 certification (ASNT, NAS 410, or ISO 9712) in at least 3 NDT methods.
- Level III certification in Radiographic Testing (RT).
- Strong knowledge of ASME Section V, VIII.2, and applicable ASTM NDT standards.
- Hands-on experience with industrial radiography using digital techniques (CR and/or DR).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical activities such as standing or stooping for extended periods.
- Willingness to occasionally travel or work nights, weekends, or on-call.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional Level III certifications in ET, PT, or VT.
- Subject matter expertise across the full technical portfolio: UT/UTPA, RT (CR & DR), ET, PT, MT, and VT.
- Experience with the assembly of large metallic structures.
- Proficiency in GD&T, Metrology, Minitab, JMP, or MS Excel (including VBA).
