Manager - Metallurgist

Responsibilities

• Oversee materials laboratory activities, including inspections for heat treatment, welding, and surface treatment processes such as powder coating and plating.
• Plan and perform periodical checks including NSS and microstructure analysis.
• Conduct material inspections for supplier parts across various commodities including rubber, plastics, aluminum, steel, and grey cast iron.
• Perform failure analysis for in-house special processes and supplier material/surface treatment concerns.
• Maintain materials lab equipment with proper calibration and servicing to meet IATF and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
• Manage Millipore particle analysis and cleanliness inspections.
• Liaison with external laboratories for required material inspection activities.
• Carry out CQI/process audits for in-house special processes.
• Deliver defect prevention to ensure no material-related quality issues reach customers or the field.
• Provide training to quality technicians in the laboratory to maintain an adequate skill set.

Requirements

• Degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
• 8-12 years of work experience in Quality Assurance, specifically handling materials labs and metallurgist activities.
• In-depth knowledge of testing various materials.
• Special process knowledge regarding heat treatments (SQF, nitriding, induction hardening), welding, and surface treatments (powder coating, chromating, phosphating, etc.).
• Familiarity with standards including ASTM, ISO/DIN, ISO/IEC 17025, and NABL accreditation requirements.
• Proficiency in failure analysis, problem-solving, quality tools, and IATF 16949 standard requirements.
