Manager Media Relations

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic media relations campaigns to advance institutional priorities and elevate scientific leadership.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with national, regional, trade, and broadcast journalists.
• Proactively pitch stories, faculty experts, and research developments to media outlets.
• Serve as a communications advisor to faculty and leadership, providing media coaching and briefing materials.
• Write and edit press releases, media advisories, pitches, and executive messaging.
• Collaborate with creative and video teams to support multimedia storytelling and visual narratives.
• Manage incoming media inquiries and support crisis communications and reputational management efforts.
• Monitor media trends, track coverage, and maintain media databases.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in media relations, journalism, or strategic communications.
• Established network of journalist and media relationships across various sectors.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with media monitoring and PR tools such as Cision, Muck Rack, or Meltwater.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in science, biomedical research, healthcare, or nonprofit communications.
• Experience supporting visual storytelling initiatives, including video or multimedia content development.
• Strong interview preparation and media coaching experience.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and influence cross-functional teams.
