Manager, Mechanical Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of mechanical engineering execution across the full development cycle, from concept definition through EVT, DVT, PVT, and mass production ramp.
• Act as a player-coach, providing hands-on technical leadership on cross-functional trade-offs involving thermals, fluids, mechanisms, and sensing.
• Manage and grow a high-performing team of mechanical, soft goods, and prototype & test engineers.
• Partner with the Chief Product Officer and executive team to shape the hardware product roadmap and translate requirements into shippable architectures.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, operations, and marketing teams to ensure successful product launches.
• Travel to Asia to manage suppliers and ensure manufacturing goals are met.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience developing complex electromechanical systems, specifically within high-volume consumer hardware.
• Proven track record of launching products from concept to high-volume production in Asia.
• Deep technical expertise in injection molding, electronics/sensor integration, and mechanism design.
• BSME or equivalent degree.
• Ability to work onsite in our San Francisco office 5 days a week.
• Willingness and ability to travel to China as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with thermal engineering, fluid systems, actuators, and soft goods.
• Experience leading early-stage product development, including feasibility prototyping and industrial design.
• Experience implementing engineering systems and processes such as design reviews and phase gates.
